Type of Cancer Acute and chronic lymphocytic leukemias, Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, myeloma, breast, brain metastases.
Route Adminstered Oral, Intravenous, Intramuscular. 
Precautions Use of antacids, H-2 blockers, check for increased blood sugar (for diabetes), interferes with immune function infection precautions, low salt diet, do not stop taking large doses abruptly. 
Side Effects Could lead to peptic ulcer or mood changes, pancreatitis, edema (fluid and salt retention), headaches, sleeplessness, vertigo, psychiatric problems, muscle weakness (low potassium), osteoporosis, bone damage to hips, increased hair growth, increased blood sugar (diabetes), cataracts, malaise, increased infections
